In the Old Testament, God plainly gave the 10 Commandments. For humans, that was not clear enough, so through time they added 603 more to clarify what God meant. This brings us to a grand total of 613 laws by which to live.
As we now know, they couldn't live under the law of God successfully, more or less under the other 603 that they added to His law. Acts 15:10
When we attempt to clarify what God has spoken by adding a to-do-list, it is then that we end up in legalism and steeped in religion.
So how does this relate to you and I in the New Testament covenant?
Jesus made living freely possible by giving us the two greatest commandments: Love God, and love your neighbor as yourself. Matthew 22:36-40
When we try to live better than what Jesus asked of us, we then live in legalism. How much more can you take anyway?
How much more legalism can life under before breaks your spirit? Some are hanging on by a thread. Go ahead! Cut the rope of legalism and fall into grace. It's a possible way of living. Grace makes His two commands doable!
